For the fourth installment of our 2017 Women and Environment series, the Women’s Centre of Calgary is teaming up with the Parkland Institute to present Beyond Consumerism – A Discussion and Workshop.
We’ll be joined by Political Ecologist Larissa Stendie, who will lead participants in a conversation on consumerism, consumption, and systems which emphasize the accumulation of goods. As a researcher with the Parkland Institute, Larissa will bring her experience working on environmental justice issues to explore some of the following:
- What is over-consumption? What are the environmental and social impacts of a consumption-oriented culture?
- What are the gendered impacts of a consumption-oriented culture?
- How is the concept of a “green transition,” linked to a move beyond consumerism?
- How can women work to address these issues at a local level?
Official programming runs from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. For more information visit http://www.womenscentrecalgary.org/beyondconsumerism or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
