Together with the Disability Action Hall and Poverty Talks, this meet up continues the discussion we began at the November 2016 CDLI Big Meet up, which focused on building more connected communities by breaking out of siloed ways of working.
So on Thursday, June 15, we will discuss the issues as poverty and disability rights in Calgary through a community-centered approach. Increasing our understanding and finding solutions to these important issues demand collaboration, the abandonment of siloes and the involvement of community.
In addition to increasing our awareness and focusing on solutions in Calgary, we will hear life stories of disability and poverty and how these areas may intersect in various ways.
Meet up topic: “Good, bad and fabulous, disability is what it is”
WHEN: Thursday, June 15, 2017, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
WHERE: Disability Action Hall (219, 18 Street SE, T2E 6J5)
So join us as we explore:
- How do we have a deeper understanding of poverty and disability in Calgary and in neighbourhoods/ communities we live in?
- What does a community-centered approach to addressing poverty and advancing disability rights look like and what actions can we/you take?
- What are some approaches that work and what gaps exit in addressing poverty and disability rights?
All these are questions and more we will explore at our next meet up. So come and be part of the conversation. We look forward to your participation.
Please RSVP by June 14, 2017, or phone Abbas Mancey, Project Lead 403-926-8624.
